Family Practitioner / General Practitioner

About the role

This full‑time position provides primary medical care to Indigenous communities on the Saanich Peninsula. The practitioner will begin at Tsawout First Nation and later join the WSANEC clinic in North Saanich, working within a hub‑and‑spoke model that serves four First Nations communities.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive family and general practice services, including preventive, acute, and chronic care.
• Provide Opioid Agonist Treatment (OAT) – initiation, follow‑up, and stabilization – in collaboration with mental health and substance‑use teams.
• Coordinate care with Nurse Practitioners, Primary Care Nurses, mental health counsellors, Indigenous Wellness Supports, pharmacists, social workers, and the Saanich Peninsula Emergency Department.
• Participate in community‑driven health planning, accountability measures, and cultural safety initiatives.

Required profile

• Medical degree with licensure to practice in British Columbia.
• Demonstrated commitment to Indigenous cultural safety, anti‑racist practice, and trauma‑informed care.
• Experience working with First Nations or Indigenous communities is preferred.
• Ability to build relational, community‑focused health partnerships.

Required skills

• Clinical competence in family medicine and primary care.
• Knowledge of Opioid Agonist Treatment protocols.
• Understanding of Indigenous worldviews and wellness approaches.
