Estimating Department Manager

About the role

The Estimating Department Manager will lead the estimating function for a diverse portfolio of industrial, commercial, government, utility and institutional projects, reporting to the Regional Vice President, Maritimes.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a team of estimators, assigning work, providing mentorship and driving continuous improvement.
• Oversee preparation and review of cost estimates based on drawings, specifications and contract documents.
• Coordinate price packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers and architects and assess risk to formulate competitive tender costs.
• Develop and maintain department procedures, budgets, staffing plans and performance reviews to ensure efficiency.
• Maintain resource databases on products, vendors and government requirements and generate metrics to support the estimating process.
• Build and sustain relationships with clients, consultants and subcontractors and represent the company in industry and community events.

Required profile

• Degree in construction, engineering, business management or related field; PMP, Gold Seal, safety certifications or MBA considered assets.
• 5‑10 years of experience in construction estimating, with proven team‑leadership abilities.
• Strong communication, analytical, planning and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to adapt to change, hold self and others accountable and focus on customer needs.

Required skills

• Proficiency with estimating software such as Accubid, Autobid or bid2win.
• Advanced Excel for data analysis and reporting.
• Knowledge of construction scheduling, planning and execution.
• Understanding of construction documents and business operations processes.
