Engineering Technologist (Level 1) – Public Works

About the role

The City of Winnipeg’s Public Works department is seeking a Technologist 1 to join its Engineering team. Working under senior staff, you will support a wide range of infrastructure projects by reviewing plans, processing permits, preparing cost estimates, and producing technical drawings.

Key responsibilities

• Review engineering plans and recommend permit approvals.
• Prepare cost estimates and project reports for various public works initiatives.
• Conduct field surveys and gather technical data for design and construction.
• Create advanced drafting and calculations for construction drawings, specifications, and budgets.
• Assist with design tasks, contract administration, and routine site inspections to ensure compliance with specifications and bylaws.
• Maintain accurate records and update project documentation.

Required profile

• Completed post‑secondary education in engineering technology or a related field.
• Ability to work under direction of senior engineers and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Commitment to safety, quality, and public service standards.

Required skills

• Drafting (advanced technical drawing).
