Engineer - RF & Antenna

About the role

Huawei Canada’s Advanced Wireless Technology Lab in Ottawa is seeking an Engineer specialized in RF and antenna design. You will work alongside graduate engineers and scientists to create innovative wireless solutions for sub‑6 GHz and mmWave applications. The position is full‑time, permanent, and on‑site.

Key responsibilities

• Design antennas and RF front‑ends, including compact MIMO and array structures for consumer and telecom products.
• Model, simulate, and optimise antenna geometries using EM tools such as Ansys HFSS or CST Studio Suite.
• Apply additive manufacturing techniques (Aerosol Jet, LDS, inkjet, DIW, polymer/metal PBF) to produce lightweight, conformal RF structures.
• Automate the design flow by building scripts and toolboxes for EM simulation, optimisation, and large‑dataset processing.
• Prototype and characterise designs on in‑house 3‑D printers, validating performance with VNAs and anechoic‑chamber measurements.
• Develop designs for manufacturing, assessing material reliability, thermal performance, and production yield.
• Collaborate with mechanical and industrial design teams to integrate antennas into tight consumer product enclosures.

Required profile

• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related physics discipline with an electromagnetics focus.
• Minimum 3 years of experience designing RF/antenna systems for consumer electronics, mobile handsets, or telecom infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of RF circuit layout, impedance matching, Smith charts, and wave propagation.
• Expert‑level proficiency with Ansys HFSS or CST Studio Suite for EM simulation.
• Proficiency in Python and MATLAB for simulation control, test automation, and data analysis.
