Emergency Physician – Island Health, Nanaimo

About the role

Island Health’s Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking board‑certified emergency physicians to join a collegial team of over 20 physicians in Nanaimo, BC. The position offers clinical, administrative, educational and research opportunities within a state‑of‑the‑art emergency department that serves as the busiest on Vancouver Island.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality emergency and trauma care to an annual census of ~70,000 patients.
• Lead and participate in emergency and trauma team activities.
• Collaborate with major specialty services for comprehensive patient management.
• Contribute to departmental education, research and quality‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Board certification in Emergency Medicine.
• Eligibility to practice medicine in British Columbia.
• Experience in a high‑volume emergency department is preferred.
• Commitment to teamwork and community engagement.

Required skills

• Advanced emergency clinical skills, including trauma assessment and resuscitation.
• Proficiency in using electronic medical record systems.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
