Emergency Physician – Island Health, Nanaimo

About the role

Island Health’s Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking board‑certified emergency physicians to join a progressive, collegial team of more than 20 doctors in Nanaimo, BC. You will work in a new, state‑of‑the‑art emergency department that serves as the busiest ED on Vancouver Island and a referral centre for the central island catchment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality emergency and trauma care to a diverse patient population of roughly 70,000 visits per year.
• Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary emergency and trauma teams during peak and critical events.
• Participate in clinical governance, quality improvement, and departmental education initiatives.
• Collaborate with major specialty services for comprehensive patient management.
• Contribute to research, teaching, and community outreach as desired.

Required profile

• Current certification in Emergency Medicine and a valid licence to practice in British Columbia.
• Experience in a high‑volume emergency department is preferred.
• Strong commitment to patient safety, teamwork, and continuous learning.
• Willingness to engage in clinical, administrative, educational, or research activities.

Required skills

• Board certification in Emergency Medicine.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Trauma life support certification (ATLS or equivalent).
• Medical licensure in British Columbia.
