Digital Payload System Engineer – Full Relocation to Montreal

About the role

This position is for a Digital Payload System Engineer who will relocate to Montreal, Canada. The company provides full relocation support, immigration assistance and a relocation bonus. Candidates may work remotely during the initial months while immigration is processed, with the expectation to move onsite once the relocation is complete.

Key responsibilities

• Gather functional, performance, environmental and security requirements from mission stakeholders and map them to payload equipment.
• Implement high‑level digital payload architecture, including optical ISLs, phased‑array antennas, feeder links, and clock synchronization.
• Produce Interface Control Documents and define high‑speed data‑bus interfaces such as SpaceWire, SpaceFibre, Ethernet and CAN.
• Perform performance simulations, Monte‑Carlo tolerance budgeting, and maintain the payload DC power budget.
• Conduct FMECA, fault‑tree, FDIR, reliability modeling and availability analyses.
• Provide system‑level specifications to hardware designers, review schematics, layouts and thermal interfaces.
• Support software development for MODCODs and on‑board processing pipelines, ensuring deterministic behavior.
• Lead integration and verification activities, including test‑automation framework setup and test‑report certification.
• Mentor junior engineers, act as technical liaison with customers and vendors, and contribute to continuous‑improvement initiatives.
• Offer on‑orbit operations support, health monitoring, root‑cause investigations and performance reporting.

Required profile

• B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace or Physics with 8+ years of digital regenerative payload system design experience on LEO/MEO missions.
• Strong technical writing and presentation skills, comfortable interfacing with customers, suppliers and senior leadership.
• Hands‑on experience supporting systems integration, testing and problem resolution.
• Proficiency with Confluence and JIRA.
• Excellent written and oral communication in English; French is a plus.
