Controller – Apparel

About the role

This senior finance position is based in the corporate office of a family‑owned Canadian specialty retailer. The Controller will work closely with the senior leadership team, overseeing accounting, reporting, budgeting, inventory control, risk management and system improvements across the retail network.

Key responsibilities

• Lead month‑end and year‑end financial statement preparation, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Manage the annual budgeting process and develop management reporting tools, KPIs and long‑term capital plans.
• Oversee cash‑flow forecasting, payments, borrowing needs and asset protection, including insurance coverage.
• Coordinate tax compliance, GST processes and act as primary liaison with CRA.
• Supervise inventory counts, valuation, payroll processing and external accountant engagements.
• Drive improvements to accounting policies, internal controls and IT infrastructure supporting finance operations.

Required profile

• Hands‑on accounting leader with strong technical expertise.
• Retail experience and solid business judgment.
• Proven ability to improve processes in a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment.
