Combat Medic

About the role

The Combat Medic is a vital member of the Canadian Armed Forces medical team, delivering emergency medical care to soldiers during operations, training, and deployments. Working alongside Medical Officers, Physician Assistants, Nursing Officers and Paramedics, the medic ensures rapid treatment and medical readiness in diverse environments.

Key responsibilities

• Provide initial and moderate life‑support care to sick or injured personnel.
• Administer lifesaving interventions, including trauma care and intravenous therapy.
• Interview patients, record medical histories, and maintain accurate medical records.
• Instruct soldiers in Combat First Aid and Tactical Combat Casualty Care.
• Manage medical supplies, equipment, and soldier readiness.
• Perform vital‑sign monitoring, electrocardiograms, audiograms, and basic laboratory procedures.
• Operate and maintain life‑support and medical equipment.
• Assist in casualty evacuation, vehicle and building rescues, and environmental health duties.

Required profile

• Minimum education: completion of Grade 10 (or Secondary 4) with applied mathematics and a science course.
• Preferred education: Grade 12 (or Secondary 5) with biology or chemistry.
• Willingness to work shifts, on‑call duties, and potential relocations for Regular Force assignments.
• Commitment to part‑time service for Primary Reserve Force, including one night per week and occasional weekends.

Required skills
