Backend Platform Software Engineer

About the role

This remote‑first position is focused on building and maintaining the core backend platform that powers multiple large‑scale products. You will work deep within complex codebases, improving performance, scalability, and reliability while enabling engineering teams to ship faster.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and enhance core backend systems, shared libraries, and internal tooling used across product teams.
• Profile, debug, and optimise system performance, scalability and reliability.
• Contribute to large‑scale distributed infrastructure with an emphasis on maintainability and operational excellence.
• Enforce high code quality through refactoring, technical reviews and best practices.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to improve platform usability and developer workflows.
• Troubleshoot complex backend, networking, database and infrastructure issues.
• Produce clear technical documentation for both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years of professional or research experience with large‑scale codebases.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills focused on performance and scalability.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, especially in distributed remote teams.
• Ownership mindset with the ability to work independently on ambiguous challenges.

Required skills

• Python programming
• FastAPI or Django frameworks
• Linux, BSD or macOS development environments
• SQL and relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL)
• Understanding of distributed systems and performance optimisation concepts
