Senior Technical Designer, Architecture

About the role

GFT’s Building & Places Group in Toronto is looking for a Senior Technical Designer, Architecture to lead the production of construction documentation across a variety of building types. Working in a hybrid model, you will collaborate with internal architects, engineers and external consultants to turn design concepts into buildable, code‑compliant drawing sets.

Key responsibilities

• Produce complete construction drawing packages from concept through planning approvals.
• Develop detailed wall assemblies, building envelope systems and critical junctions with a focus on constructability and performance.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary drawing sets with structural, mechanical, electrical and civil consultants.
• Prepare and submit planning approval and permit packages in accordance with municipal requirements and the Ontario Building Code.
• Conduct rigorous QA/QC reviews of drawing sets before issue.
• Support construction teams through shop‑drawing review, RFIs, site instructions and on‑site coordination.
• Maintain and improve drawing standards, templates and technical workflows.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in architectural construction documentation and detailing.
• Strong understanding of building science, envelope performance and code compliance.
• Proactive problem‑solver able to identify and resolve technical issues early.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills with internal and external stakeholders.
