Senior QA Engineer - Shopify Program (6-Month Contract)

About the role

Lazer, a remote-first digital product studio with headquarters in Toronto, is looking for a Senior QA Engineer to own quality on a large enterprise Shopify program. You will shape the testing approach, guide the QA effort and keep stakeholders informed through launch. This is a 6-month contract starting in December, and the ideal candidate can work in hours aligned to Eastern Time (EST) or Pacific Time (PST).

Key responsibilities

• Own the test strategy from test plans to launch sign-off, prioritizing by risk and business impact.
• Test the storefront against acceptance criteria: product and listing pages, search and filters, cart and checkout, promotions, navigation, content, wishlist and consent.
• Test integrations: ERP and inventory feeds (e.g. SAP), order management and fulfillment, marketplace orders (e.g. Mirakl), search and merchandising (e.g. Bloomreach), customer data and POS, payments, gift cards and fraud tools, and the middleware connecting them.
• Validate data moving between systems via APIs and file-based transfers (S3, SFTP), including transaction log reconciliation.
• Keep the defect list accurate and separate real defects from pending work on other teams or vendors.
• Act as the QA point of contact for client stakeholders and developers, including a weekly QA status report.
• Lead and support the QA team on the program.
• Manage test cases in TestRail and track defects and QA work in Jira and Confluence.
• Build end-to-end test automation (Playwright preferred) when the program is ready.
• Use AI tools daily, such as Claude, to draft test cases and review the output carefully.

Required profile

• Hands-on experience testing Shopify stores, including cart, checkout and promotions.
• Integration testing on enterprise commerce programs (ERP, order management or middleware) using API testing (Postman or similar) and file-based data feeds.
• Experience owning quality as the main or only QA on a project, including triaging defects.
• Clear, warm communication with developers, client stakeholders and leadership, in written and spoken English.
• Regular use of AI in QA work, openness to a Claude certification during onboarding, and availability for ET business hours.
• Nice to have: formal leadership of QA engineers, retail systems experience (POS, store fulfillment, marketplace), agency experience across several client projects, headless Shopify (Hydrogen) and accessibility testing basics.

Required skills

• Version control, CI/CD, and native vs. headless Shopify.
• Modern automation frameworks such as Playwright, Cypress or Selenium.
• API testing with Postman or similar.
