Senior Accountant

About the role

An established global organization in the insurance and financial services sector is looking for a Senior Accountant to join its Financial Reporting team in Toronto. The role is responsible for preparing US GAAP quarterly and annual financial statements and will support a major finance transformation from PeopleSoft to Oracle.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare quarterly and annual US GAAP financial statements, cash flow statements, and shareholder equity reporting.
• Support month‑end and quarter‑end close activities through journal entries, reconciliations, analysis, and reporting deliverables.
• Collaborate with Accounting, Actuarial, Treasury, and Finance teams to gather and validate financial inputs for reporting.
• Investigate variances, assess reporting accuracy, and challenge information to ensure high‑quality outputs.
• Assist audit requests, internal controls, and compliance activities within established reporting frameworks.
• Contribute to finance transformation initiatives and support process improvements tied to future systems changes.

Required profile

• 3+ years of post‑qualified accounting experience in insurance, reinsurance, or financial services.
• CPA designation or equivalent professional accounting qualification.
• Strong hands‑on experience preparing and analyzing US GAAP financial statements.
• Experience supporting statutory, management, or regulatory reporting in a controlled environment.
• Exposure to insurance reporting or Big 4 audit experience supporting insurance clients.
• Excellent communication skills with senior stakeholders.
