Senior Accountant – Automation & AI Focus

About the role

Opendoor is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its Accounting & Finance team in Toronto. The role blends traditional accounting responsibilities with a strong emphasis on automation, AI tools, and process improvement to support a fast‑growing, technology‑driven business.

Key responsibilities

• Leverage AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude) and emerging technologies to streamline accounting workflows and enhance data analysis.
• Design, recommend, and implement automation initiatives such as scripting, workflow tools, and ERP enhancements to reduce manual effort and improve close efficiency.
• Prepare and review journal entries, month‑end close deliverables, balance‑sheet reconciliations, flux analyses, and bank reconciliations.
• Support the preparation of consolidated financial statements and assist with external audits, including SOX compliance, internal‑controls documentation, and controls testing.
• Prepare monthly consolidation and elimination journal entries, handling multi‑currency and intercompany transactions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Minimum 3 + years of progressive accounting experience in a fast‑paced environment.
• Familiarity with automation and AI/ML tools and a willingness to explore emerging technology.
• Experience with SOX compliance and internal controls over financial reporting.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and comfort working with large data sets.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities during close.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
