Pharmacy Assistant

About the role

The Pharmacy Assistant supports the pharmacist by handling prescription intake, data entry, and inventory tasks, allowing the pharmacist to focus on patient care. This position is essential for maintaining efficient pharmacy operations and delivering excellent customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and verify prescriptions for completeness and legal compliance.
• Enter patient and prescription data into the computer system, perform price checks, and generate reports.
• Fill prescriptions under pharmacist supervision, conduct accuracy checks, label, and prepare medications.
• Maintain inventory, order drugs and supplies, and remove expired items.
• Perform general housekeeping, keep the dispensary clean, and manage clerical filing.
• Assist with over‑the‑counter (OTC) operations, stocking, and cashier duties as needed.

Required profile

• Attention to detail and ability to follow provincial pharmacy regulations.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work as part of a team.
• Willingness to learn and adhere to safety and cleanliness standards.

Required skills

• Data entry and computer operation.
• Prescription processing, including dosage calculations and Latin abbreviations.
• Use of Telxon gun for inventory management.
• Basic inventory control and stock ordering.
