HR Generalist I

About the role

The HR Generalist I provides day‑to‑day administrative support for the Human Resources department in Whitby. This position handles the full recruitment cycle, employee onboarding, benefits administration, and various employee‑service functions.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver full recruitment services, including job postings, sourcing, testing, interviewing, offers and onboarding.
• Conduct new‑hire orientation and applicable training sessions.
• Track probationary employee attendance and ensure completion of assessments at 2, 14, 30, 60, 90 days and semi‑annual reviews.
• Serve as liaison for benefit and pension programs for hourly and salaried staff.
• Process HR system changes such as new hires and terminations, ensuring accurate documentation.
• Act as employee advocate for benefits, vacation, sick leave, leaves of absence and employee assistance.
• Create and distribute the quarterly HR newsletter.
• Maintain databases for PPE, door access, training and quality badging; produce security and forklift badges.
• Post updated policies and employee information.
• Liaise with payroll to address employee pay‑related questions and provide reporting backup for HR specialists.

Required profile

• Experience providing administrative support within an HR department.
• Familiarity with recruitment processes and onboarding procedures.
• Knowledge of benefits, pension, and payroll liaison functions.
