General Duty Nurse (N2) – Medicine

About the role

The General Duty Nurse (N2) will provide professional registered nursing services on the Medicine Clinical Teaching Unit at Health Sciences Centre. This fixed‑term position covers a maternity leave and offers a blend of day, night, and weekend shifts.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver independent nursing care to patients with complex and unpredictable health needs.
• Administer prescribed medical treatments and medications safely.
• Lead and coordinate within the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
• Facilitate patient discharge planning and continuity of care.
• Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to unit policies and provincial legislation.

Required profile

• Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing program.
• Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).
• Recent related experience is an asset.
• Active participation in professional nursing associations is preferred.
• Commitment to the organization’s vision, values, and goals.

Required skills

• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification as per employer policy.
• Knowledge of Manitoba RN standards of practice, Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics, and relevant health legislation (PHIA, WHMIS, etc.).
• Effective oral and written communication.
• Critical thinking, problem‑solving, and ability to prioritize multiple patient needs.
