Emergency Medicine Physician

About the role

The Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, a tertiary UBC teaching centre serving a catchment of roughly 250,000 people, is seeking Emergency Medicine physicians. The department handles about 75,000 emergency visits annually and is the third busiest trauma centre in British Columbia. Positions are available on a full‑time or part‑time basis, with physicians working under an APP contract for emergency duties and a MOCAP contract for the Trauma Team Leader program, typically covering 14 shifts per month.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive emergency care, including assessment, stabilization, and disposition of acute patients.
• Lead and participate in trauma resuscitations as part of the High Acuity Response Team.
• Supervise and teach medical students, residents, and other learners during core rotations and electives.
• Engage in quality improvement activities, monthly journal clubs, and trauma rounds.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary specialists across cardiology, neurology, surgery, and other services.

Required profile

• Board‑certified or eligible in Emergency Medicine.
• Experience in a high‑volume emergency department and trauma care.
• Commitment to teaching and continuous learning.
• Flexibility to work full‑time or part‑time schedules.

Required skills

• Advanced emergency clinical skills, including airway management and resuscitation.
• Trauma assessment and management.
• Interpretation of imaging studies such as CT and MRI.
• Proficiency with hospital information and electronic medical record systems.
