Director, Space Planning & Facilities Management

About the role

The University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Medicine is seeking a strategic leader to direct space planning and facilities management for its academic environment. Reporting to the Managing Director of Operations, the Director will oversee the allocation, development, and utilization of approximately 1.8 million square feet of academic space.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall strategic leadership for space planning, development, and facilities management across the Faculty of Medicine.
• Lead internal staff and external consultants to create and implement space allocation policies and facility plans.
• Negotiate with external agencies, institutions, and regulatory bodies to secure space and facility requirements.
• Build and maintain key partner relationships to support the Faculty’s evolving space needs.
• Foster a culture of integrity, collegiality, and agility within the cross‑functional team.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in facilities management, space planning, or related fields within a large, complex organization.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage external consultants.
• Strong negotiation and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Demonstrated strategic thinking aligned with institutional goals.
