Director of Internal Controls

About the role

Reporting directly to the CFO, the Director of Internal Controls will re‑establish, build, and lead a stand‑alone internal controls function for a national beverage company. The role oversees the design, implementation and monitoring of operational control activities, ensuring key risks are mitigated and compliance with laws, policies and procedures is maintained.

Key responsibilities

• Re‑establish a stand‑alone internal controls function, defining its mandate, operating model, scope and priorities.
• Develop a second‑line internal controls framework that integrates with the enterprise risk management (ERM) framework.
• Design, implement and monitor control activities embedded in business processes across manufacturing, distribution and corporate functions.
• Create AI‑driven testing and continuous monitoring processes using automation and advanced analytics.
• Partner with senior management to embed scalable controls and support regulatory and audit readiness.
• Collaborate with the ERM lead to align enterprise risks, control design and ongoing monitoring.
• Travel periodically to sites across Canada, including manufacturing plants and distribution centres.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading internal controls, audit or risk functions in large, complex organisations.
• Deep understanding of regulatory requirements, risk management and control design.
• Demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders and drive cultural change.
• Experience implementing continuous monitoring and data‑driven risk management.
• Strong communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
