About the role
The Department of Jewish Studies at McGill University seeks a qualified instructor to teach JWST 309 – Jews in Film during the Fall 2026 term. The course explores the portrayal of Jewish characters and themes in cinema from the 1920s to the present, using English‑language films and subtitled works.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and deliver weekly lectures on film analysis and Jewish studies.
- Curate and organize film screenings, ensuring appropriate subtitles and licensing.
- Design and grade assignments, exams, and participation assessments.
- Maintain accurate course records and communicate grades to students.
- Collaborate with department faculty on curriculum alignment.
Required profile
- Advanced degree (e.g., MA, PhD) in film, communications, or a related field.
- Extensive experience teaching the intersection of Jewish topics and film.
- Authorization to work in Canada and willingness to work on the McGill campus in Quebec.
- Fluent English communication skills, both verbal and written.
Required skills
- No specific technical skills are mandated; expertise in film analysis and academic instruction is essential.
