Assistant Manager – Restaurant Operations

About the role

The Assistant Manager will partner with the Restaurant Manager to oversee daily operations at our Colwood A&W location. This full‑time position ensures smooth service, high food quality, and compliance with health and safety standards while supporting the team during the manager’s absence.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Manager in balancing food quality, speed of service, guest satisfaction, and cost control.
• Assist with weekly P&L reviews, managing food, labour, and operational expenses.
• Maintain A&W operational standards and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC, public health, and Employment Standards Act regulations.
• Help schedule staff, oversee shift deployment, and coordinate equipment maintenance.
• Recruit, train, and mentor hourly staff; address performance issues and support disciplinary actions.
• Handle payroll and scheduling compliance, document critical incidents, and follow up on health‑and‑safety corrective actions.

Required profile

• Minimum secondary school certificate or equivalent.
• At least 5 years of experience in a supervisory or management role within a restaurant environment.
• Strong understanding of food safety, sanitation, and workplace health regulations.
• Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a diverse team.

Required skills

• Experience with financial statements (P&L) and cost control.
• Knowledge of labour scheduling and payroll processes.
• Familiarity with health‑and‑safety compliance (WorkSafeBC, ESA).
