Application Developer

About the role

Sobeys Inc. is seeking a motivated Application Developer to join its Mississauga office. You will work within a cross‑functional team to design, build, and maintain high‑performance, responsive websites that support the company’s digital initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and deploy responsive and accessible web applications.
• Collaborate with designers, product managers, and QA to implement UI/UX specifications.
• Write modular, scalable, and well‑documented code following modern development practices.
• Optimize sites for speed, scalability, SEO, and cross‑browser compatibility.
• Develop and integrate APIs, web services, and third‑party tools.
• Work with CMS platforms such as WordPress or custom solutions to create templates and dynamic content.
• Maintain version control with Git, participate in code reviews, and follow CI/CD workflows.
• Debug and resolve bugs, performance bottlenecks, and accessibility issues.

Required profile

• 2–4 years of professional experience in website development.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams and participating in sprint activities.
• Ability to produce clean, maintainable code and follow best practices.

Required skills

• HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+).
• Modern JavaScript frameworks such as React, Next.js, or Vue.js.
• Server‑side languages: PHP, Node.js, or Python.
• Web servers: Apache or Nginx.
• Databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB.
• CMS platforms: WordPress/WP Engine or custom CMS.
• Hosting environments: Azure App Services (Node.js or PHP).
• Version control: Git and basic CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) is a plus.
• Understanding of responsive design, WCAG accessibility standards, and SEO performance techniques.
