Senior / Staff Software Engineer

About the role

Waabi is a leader in Physical AI, building technology for autonomous trucks and robotaxis. The Senior/Staff Software Engineer will join a multidisciplinary team focused on scaling safe self‑driving systems.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineers and researchers to develop AI‑first solutions for autonomous vehicle safety.
• Design and implement reliable, scalable tools and frameworks that support AV development.
• Lead technical and architecture discussions, partnering with researchers and engineers.
• Mentor software engineers through code reviews, design reviews and best‑practice sharing.
• Assist in task planning, estimation and delivery of software components.

Required profile

• MS/PhD or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of industry experience delivering production‑quality software.
• Proficiency in Python, Go, C++ or Rust.
• Experience working on a shared codebase within a collaborative team.
• Strong ability to learn new technologies quickly and work openly with others.
• Passion for self‑driving technologies and solving hard problems.

Required skills

• Programming in C++ for real‑world robotic systems.
• Comfortable with Linux/Unix environments, Docker and Git workflows.
• Background in robotics or machine learning.
• Experience with automated testing and Agile/Scrum development processes.
• Knowledge of distributed systems, parallel computing, profiling, concurrency and test‑driven/API‑driven development.
• Familiarity with system design, algorithms, data structures and low‑level threading.
