Quantum Scientist

About the role

Q-Block Computing Research is seeking a Quantum Scientist to lead experimental research in atomic, molecular and optical (AMO) physics, quantum optics and precision measurement. This full‑time, on‑site position in Ottawa focuses on fundamental questions about quantum systems rather than product engineering.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and operate experimental quantum systems, including optical and vacuum setups, laser and control architectures.
• Execute rigorous experimental programs, characterize performance, and analyze data to extract physical understanding.
• Contribute to research at the intersection of quantum computing, sensing and metrology, and produce scientific documentation and publications.
• Collaborate with engineers and technical staff across optics, electronics and control systems.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or PhD in Physics, Applied Physics or a closely related field with a focus on experimental quantum systems.
• Demonstrated hands‑on experience designing and executing experiments with complex optical or vacuum equipment.
• Proficiency in scientific computing and data analysis using Python, MATLAB or equivalent.
• Strong intellectual curiosity, scientific honesty and ability to communicate complex ideas clearly.
