Technical Writer – Satellite Operations Handbook (Editor-in-Chief)

About the role

We are seeking a Technical Writer to act as editor‑in‑chief of the Satellite Operations Handbook for a Montreal‑based team. The role involves consolidating inputs from multiple spacecraft subsystems and producing a clear, procedure‑grade document used by operators during real‑time missions.

Key responsibilities

• Gather documentation and inputs from subsystem teams (power, thermal, AOCS, TT&C, payload, FDIR, ground segment) and integrate them into a coherent handbook.
• Interview subsystem engineers to close gaps, resolve ambiguities, and verify technical accuracy of each section.
• Rewrite engineering source material into clear, unambiguous, procedure‑grade language for operators.
• Structure the handbook across the mission lifecycle, covering nominal operations, contingency/FDIR response, and subsystem references.
• Maintain revision and configuration control; organize and run formal review cycles with engineering and operations stakeholders.
• Establish and enforce a style guide, templates, and terminology consistency across all contributors.

Required profile

• Proven long‑form technical authorship such as a PhD thesis, published research, or prior authorship of operations manuals, handbooks, flight rules, or procedures.
• Working knowledge of satellites and space systems, able to read and interrogate subsystem engineering documentation.
• Fast learner with a synthetic mind, capable of compressing many inconsistent sources into a clear narrative.
• Excellent written English.
