Synthetic Aperture Radar Payload Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a senior Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Payload Engineer to lead the architecture, design, integration and verification of a SAR payload for LEO/MEO missions. The position is based in Montreal, with the possibility to work remotely during the initial immigration period.

Key responsibilities

• Gather and trace functional, performance, pointing, environmental and security requirements from mission stakeholders.
• Design the SAR system architecture, including antenna arrays, RF front‑end, digital beamforming, processing chain and supporting electronics.
• Perform performance simulations, tolerance budgeting and image‑quality analysis.
• Develop and execute the Payload Verification Master Plan covering unit, subsystem and payload‑level tests, including EMC and environmental campaigns.
• Lead cross‑functional coordination with electrical, power, structures, thermal, software, ground‑segment and mission‑operations teams.
• Provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers and act as liaison with customers and external vendors.
• Maintain configuration control in a PLM environment and support design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, MRR).
• Support on‑orbit operations, health monitoring, anomaly investigation and performance reporting.

Required profile

• B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Physics with 10+ years of SAR remote‑sensing system development experience.
• Strong technical‑writing and presentation skills, comfortable interfacing with customers, suppliers and senior leadership.
• Proven ability to work with minimal supervision and distill complex problems into actionable analyses.
• Excellent written and oral communication in English; French knowledge is an asset.
