Senior Technical SR&ED Writer (Software Focus)

About the role

Zero To One Strategic is seeking a senior technical writer with deep software expertise to craft audit‑ready SR&ED claims. You will translate complex R&D work in machine learning, cloud infrastructure, embedded systems, and enterprise software into clear, CRA‑compliant narratives.

Key responsibilities

• Own the technical narrative by writing detailed, compliant reports that demonstrate technological uncertainty and systematic investigation.
• Conduct deep‑dive interviews with CTOs, engineers, and technical teams to extract core R&D elements.
• Partner with project managers and finance staff to align technical stories with eligible expenditures.
• Translate advanced software concepts into plain language while preserving technical depth.
• Manage multiple claim deadlines and client relationships in a fast‑paced, remote‑first environment.
• Stay current on CRA SR&ED guidelines and ensure deliverables meet the latest standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
• At least 2 years of experience preparing SR&ED claims, either in‑house or with a consultancy.
• Excellent writing, editing, and research abilities.
• Strong understanding of software development lifecycles, system architecture, algorithms, and technical experimentation.
• Proven ability to manage deadlines and navigate ambiguity with precision.
