Senior Software Engineer - Infrastructure

About the role

We are a team of passionate engineers solving complex distributed systems and infrastructure challenges. We are building Kora, a managed service that delivers high availability and performance at low cost. In this role you will help create a highly available, performant, reliable, durable, scalable, multi‑tenant storage engine for Kora.

Key responsibilities

• Build the software underpinning the mission‑critical Confluent Cloud storage engine, designing, developing and operationalizing high‑performance, scalable, reliable and resilient systems.
• Independently drive execution of software projects to deliver complex projects in production with a focus on quality.
• Identify root causes and solve hard problems beyond treating symptoms.
• Troubleshoot issues and improve operations for a complex technical stack spanning all three public clouds.
• Collaborate with the team and stakeholders, making decisions that benefit the team and the company.
• Maintain a customer‑focused mindset, helping customers succeed with challenging problems.

Required profile

• BS, MS, or PhD in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 2+ years of cloud infrastructure or cloud networking experience.
• Strong fundamentals in distributed systems design and development.
• Experience building and operating large‑scale systems in the Cloud.
• Solid understanding of basic systems operations (disk, network, operating systems).
• Self‑starter able to work effectively in teams.
• Proficiency in Java, Scala, C/C++, Go or other statically typed languages.

Required skills

• Strong background in distributed storage systems or databases.
• Experience in resource management and quality‑of‑service (QoS) mechanisms.
• Knowledge of public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Interest in technical evangelism, such as speaking at conferences or writing blog posts about Kafka.
