Senior Backend Engineer (Remote, Canada)

About the role

Shortstory is building a data‑driven retail platform for petite women and needs a senior backend engineer to design and own core services that power order processing, logistics, and internal operations. You will work closely with product, frontend, and operations teams to deliver reliable, scalable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services that support core business workflows.
• Own projects end‑to‑end, from early design through production and iteration.
• Design clear, stable APIs and data models.
• Collaborate across systems (orders, inventory, logistics, data) to solve complex, interconnected problems.
• Balance speed, scalability, and maintainability when making technical trade‑offs.
• Improve system reliability through monitoring, testing, and debugging.
• Contribute to engineering standards, code reviews, and documentation.

Required profile

• 5+ years of software development experience, including 2+ years with Python.
• Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and system design.
• Experience with infrastructure, monitoring, and CI/CD practices.
• Ability to communicate clearly and produce thorough documentation.
