Senior Associate – Litigation (Toronto)

About the role

The Senior Associate will focus on Aboriginal law matters, including treaty rights, consultation, accommodation, and issues related to reserve and title lands. The role may also involve regulatory proceedings and other public law litigation such as constitutional, administrative and municipal matters.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute legal and litigation strategies for Aboriginal law matters.
• Conduct research, draft pleadings, affidavits, correspondence and legislation for Indigenous governments.
• Interview witnesses, prepare evidence, manage discovery and appear before courts and tribunals.
• Facilitate community sessions on law‑making and coordinate Elders’ deliberations.
• Support negotiations related to self‑government, jurisdiction and Indigenous self‑determination.

Required profile

• 8+ years of litigation experience, including appearances at various court levels.
• Strong advocacy, oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent analytical, research and drafting abilities.
• Proven negotiation skills and ability to work independently.
• Familiarity with civil procedures and ability to build relationships within a team.
• Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario, eligible to practice law in Ontario.
