About the role
Positions in this classification cook and prepare meals in accordance with a menu plan and assume responsibility for an assigned area of meal preparation in a high‑volume commercial kitchen at UBC’s Retail Food Services.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare main courses, pastries, desserts, salads, sandwich plates and specialty items on a large scale according to established menu plans.
- Assume responsibility for a specific area of food production, delegating tasks to assistant cooks as needed.
- Maintain high standards of sanitation and safety, complying with FoodSafe, UBC policies and safety guidelines.
- Interact with guests, providing service that meets UBC Food Services customer‑service standards and addressing allergy concerns.
Required profile
- Completion of a certified cooking program.
- FoodSafe Level 1 certification.
- Minimum two years of related culinary experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required skills
- Certified cooking program knowledge.
- FoodSafe Level 1 food safety practices.
