Mid to Senior QA Engineer – API & Automation (6‑month contract)

About the role

Our client is looking for a pragmatic, detail‑oriented QA Engineer to lead API testing, automation, and database validation for public‑facing and internal government services. The position is a six‑month contract based in Toronto with a hybrid work model (two days onsite per week).

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and execute functional, negative, contract and regression API test suites using Postman or Thunder Client.
• Build and maintain automated UI tests with Playwright (JavaScript/TypeScript) and leverage AI‑assisted features for test generation and flakiness detection.
• Develop and support UFT scripts for legacy or specialized UI scenarios.
• Write and run complex SQL queries to validate data integrity, prepare test fixtures and verify ETL outcomes.
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI) to provide fast feedback and gating for releases.
• Validate non‑functional requirements such as performance basics, security checks and accessibility considerations.
• Document defects, collaborate with engineers to reproduce issues and verify fixes.
• Produce test plans, test cases and data strategies aligned with auditability standards.
• Mentor team members and share best practices to raise automation maturity.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional QA or test engineering experience.
• Strong hands‑on experience with API testing tools (Postman, Thunder Client).
• Proven ability to build and maintain Playwright test suites.
• Experience with UFT for UI automation.
• Advanced SQL skills (joins, aggregates, subqueries, transactions).
• Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript or Python for scripting and automation.
• Experience integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines.
