Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

BinSentry is a fast‑growing ag‑tech company based in Kitchener, developing IoT hardware and AI‑driven software to optimise feed‑bin management across North America. We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer who will push the limits of technology and help build the hardware that powers the Mill of the Future.

Key responsibilities

• Create mechanical part designs in SolidWorks and prototype them using 3‑D printers or external machine shops.
• Assemble prototype systems, perform verification and validation testing, and ensure compliance with standards such as IEC 61010, UL 1203 and IEC 60079.
• Collaborate closely with electrical engineers to integrate subsystems and generate work instructions for production staff.
• Drive design decisions, manage trade‑offs, and troubleshoot root‑cause issues through prototype, validation and production phases.
• Document designs and guide them through certification and mass‑production processes.

Required profile

• Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering degree.
• 5+ years of experience designing electro‑mechanical systems and bringing concepts to mass production.
• Strong knowledge of SolidWorks and GD&T.
• Experience working with prototype machine shops and Asian vendors.
• Proven ability to own technical decisions in ambiguous problem environments.

Required skills

• SolidWorks CAD modelling.
• Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
• 3‑D printing and prototype manufacturing.
• Compliance testing for IEC 61010, UL 1203, IEC 60079.
• Environmental chamber testing for reliability.
