Live Sound Technician

About the role

We are seeking a Live Sound Technician to support concerts and events at McGill University’s music venues. This part‑time position is open to graduate students in the Sound Recording program and offers hands‑on experience in a professional audio environment.

Key responsibilities

• Organize and set up all required audio equipment for rehearsals and performances.
• Attend dress rehearsals and liaise with clients to confirm technical requirements.
• Perform sound checks and operate the soundboard during events.
• Monitor and adjust the audio mix to ensure optimal sound quality.
• Maintain equipment, report any issues, and assist with venue upkeep.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in the Graduate Program of Sound Recording at McGill’s Schulich School of Music, or approved for the qualifying year.
• Full knowledge of McGill’s music venues and associated audio/video equipment.
• Ability to work under strict timelines and communicate effectively in English.
• Authorized to work in Canada and willing to work in Quebec.

Required skills

• Proficiency with digital audio workstation (DAW) software.
• Standard stereo microphone techniques.
• Soundboard operation and audio equipment setup.

What we offer

• Hourly wage of $18.00 (AMUSE collective agreement).
