Litigation Associate – Aboriginal Law (Vancouver)

About the role

The Associate will focus on Aboriginal law, including treaty rights, consultation, accommodation, and issues related to reserve and title lands. The role may also involve regulatory proceedings and other public‑law litigation such as constitutional, administrative, and municipal matters.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute legal and litigation strategies.
• Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, affidavits, applications and correspondence.
• Draft legislation for Indigenous governments and coordinate agreements with governments.
• Interview witnesses, prepare evidence and manage discovery.
• Appear before courts and tribunals, including oral arguments and submissions.
• Facilitate community sessions on law‑making and Elders’ deliberations.
• Prepare for trials, develop questions and statements, and appear at all court levels.
• Support negotiations on self‑government, jurisdiction and Indigenous self‑determination.
• Manage client files and maintain relationships throughout the litigation process.

Required profile

• 4–7 years of litigation experience, including work at various court levels.
• Strong advocacy and oral/written communication skills.
• Excellent analytical, interpretive, research and drafting abilities.
• Proven negotiation skills and ability to work independently.
• Familiarity with civil procedures and building relationships in a team environment.
• Eligibility to practice law in British Columbia as a member in good standing with the Law Society of BC.
