Impact Benefit Agreement Lawyer

About the role

The practice group operating at the intersection of natural resources and Indigenous law is seeking a qualified lawyer to provide expert advice on Impact Benefit Agreements (IBAs) and related resource‑development negotiations. This position is remote and serves clients across Canada.

Key responsibilities

• Advise Indigenous communities and project proponents on the drafting, negotiation and implementation of Impact Benefit Agreements.
• Support and facilitate negotiations between resource companies and Indigenous groups.
• Draft, review and finalize IBAs, memoranda of understanding and other commercial agreements.
• Provide counsel on consultation and accommodation obligations under applicable legislation.
• Collaborate with environmental, regulatory and corporate teams on resource development projects.

Required profile

• Member of the Bar in Ontario or British Columbia, in good standing.
• Demonstrated experience with Impact Benefit Agreements, natural‑resources law or Indigenous law.
• Strong negotiation and relationship‑building abilities.
• Comfortable engaging with diverse stakeholders, including Indigenous community leadership.
• Willingness to travel as required.
