Fire Protection Manager

About the role

HIDI, an employee‑owned engineering consultancy, is seeking a Fire Protection Manager to lead its fire protection practice in Toronto. The role combines technical expertise, operational leadership, and business development within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead day‑to‑day operations of the Fire Protection team, providing mentorship, coaching, and performance management.
• Design, coordinate, and deliver fire protection and life‑safety systems, reviewing and sealing drawings and technical documents.
• Ensure designs comply with OBC, NFPA, ASHRAE and other applicable codes and standards.
• Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables while maintaining high quality and client satisfaction.
• Build and maintain strong client and industry relationships, supporting business development and proposal preparation.

Required profile

• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario, in good standing.
• Minimum 10 years of engineering consulting experience and at least 5 years in a leadership or management role.
• Proven ability to lead teams, mentor staff, and manage client relationships.

Required skills

• Fire protection system design and coordination.
• Hydraulic calculations and system layout expertise.
• Strong knowledge of OBC, NFPA, and ASHRAE standards.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and general engineering software/tools.
