Communications Officer

About the role

The Tanenbaum Open Science Institute (TOSI) at McGill University seeks a Communications Officer to drive its Open Science mission. Reporting to the CEO, the incumbent will develop and execute communications strategies that inform, promote, and engage a broad network of partners, stakeholders, and the public.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive communications plan to showcase TOSI initiatives and partner projects.
• Coordinate and promote events, conferences, webinars, and educational programs, handling outreach, registration, and post‑event follow‑up.
• Lead communications for the international Metascience 2027 Conference and related initiatives.
• Create and manage content across digital platforms such as the website, social media, newsletters, Teams, Google Suite, and Slack.
• Draft articles, op‑eds, briefing notes, impact reports, and other written materials for diverse audiences.
• Maintain media relationships and act as the primary contact between TOSI and the press.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree with at least three years of experience in science communications, community management, or outreach.
• Proven ability to translate complex scientific concepts into accessible, audience‑specific formats.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and capacity to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
• Demonstrated interest in Open Science and experience working in higher‑education, healthcare, or nonprofit settings is an asset.
