Commercial Lending AI Engineer Intern (Winter 2027)

About the role

EQ Bank is modernising Canadian banking and is looking for a motivated intern to join its Commercial Lending Technology team for the winter term. You will help design, develop, test and support RESTful APIs, ETL integrations, Power Platform solutions and emerging AI‑enabled capabilities that power the bank’s digital payment and lending services.

Key responsibilities

• Support the design, development, testing and maintenance of RESTful APIs, ETL integrations, Power Platform solutions and AI‑enabled workflows.
• Assist with requirements analysis and contribute to functional and non‑functional technical solutions.
• Develop microservices, LLM integrations, intelligent agents and workflow automations.
• Participate in Agile SCRUM activities and support sprint delivery.
• Perform unit testing, support QA triage, documentation, code reviews and incident resolution.
• Contribute to API and integration modernisation initiatives within Payments Technology.
• Work on proof‑of‑concept projects involving LLM‑based solutions and intelligent agents.

Required profile

• Enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Academic or co‑op experience in software development or technology delivery.
• Foundational knowledge of RESTful API development and basic understanding of ETL concepts.
• Exposure to AI‑enabled solutions such as LLM integrations, intelligent agents or workflow automation (nice to have).
• Familiarity with J2EE/JEE frameworks (Spring MVC, Spring Security, Hibernate, OAuth) (nice to have).
• Basic experience with SQL Server databases.
• Knowledge of unit testing frameworks (JUnit) and version control tools (Git).
• Experience with collaboration tools like Jira and Confluence.
• Strong written and verbal communication, problem‑solving and analytical skills.
