Commercial Funding Officer

About the role

Join a dynamic Commercial Funding team at EQ Bank, a challenger bank serving millions of Canadians. The Commercial Funding Officer will manage legal and AML reviews, coordinate with lawyers and partners, and ensure smooth funding of commercial mortgage transactions.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct legal and AML reviews of commitment letters, CMHC certificates, and related documents, ensuring compliance with Bank policies and legislation.
• Instruct and follow up with lawyers, notaries, or partners to obtain required documentation and verify enforceability of loan agreements.
• Review corporate structures, insurance, title and tax certificates, recommending waivers to Funding Management as needed.
• Maintain daily pipeline, communicate with Credit and Funding teams, and update loan information in the Bank’s systems.
• Assist Funding Management with reporting, testing, and support other funding teams during peak periods.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years of commercial mortgage funding experience within a regulated Canadian financial institution or law office.
• Post‑secondary education (diploma/degree) preferably in Legal or AML Compliance, with coursework in Contract Law, Business Law, or AML.
• Strong knowledge of the PCMLTFA Act and related regulations.
• Ability to identify process‑improvement opportunities and provide recommendations.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills; bilingualism is a plus.
