Auxiliary Service Worker – Custodial Services

About the role

The Auxiliary Service Worker provides cleaning and minor maintenance for UBC buildings on the Vancouver campus. The role supports daily operations, prepares spaces for university events, and helps maintain a safe, tidy environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, strip, wax, polish, shampoo and disinfect floors, walls, fixtures, furniture and appliances using hand‑ or power‑operated equipment.
• Collect and dispose of garbage, empty waste receptacles, and replenish supplies such as soap, toilet paper and paper towels.
• Clean interior and exterior windows, glass surfaces, shades and Venetian blinds.
• Maintain sidewalks, clear snow when required, and report any security or maintenance issues.
• Set up and rearrange furniture and equipment for university functions, exams and ceremonies.

Required profile

• Completion of Grade 10 with at least one year of related custodial experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Willingness to respect diverse perspectives and a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
• Ability to work independently, follow written instructions and prioritize tasks to meet operational deadlines.

Required skills

• Operation of standard custodial cleaning equipment (e.g., vacuums, floor scrubbers, polishers).
• General knowledge of custodial rules, regulations, security and safety policies.
