2e Maître – Ocean Traverse Nord

About the role

Join the crew of the Ocean Traverse Nord as a Second Mate, supporting dredging operations on a seasonal schedule. You will work six weeks on‑board followed by six weeks off, ensuring safe navigation and vessel performance throughout the season.

Key responsibilities

• Implement the captain’s directives and assist in safe vessel operation.
• Verify the proper functioning of navigation instruments and ship controls.
• Obtain necessary navigation permits and plot the vessel’s route using navigation tools.
• Monitor weather reports and calculate the ship’s position and speed.
• Pilot the vessel according to the established itinerary and maintain stability.
• Plan and execute safe passage through narrow or hazardous areas.
• Perform docking maneuvers and assist with mooring operations.
• Support health, safety, and environmental management activities.

Required profile

• Valid Officer of the Watch (Brevet Officier de pont) certification.
• Basic safety certification (FUM) and advanced fire‑fighting training.
• Ship security personnel certification.
• General Radio Operator Certificate (CGO).
• Advanced sea first‑aid certification.
• Valid Canadian passport.
• Advanced proficiency in English (spoken and written); French is an asset.
