Toolroom Technician – Welding Specialist

About the role

The Toolroom Technician (Welding) provides essential support to the School of Trades and Technologies, ensuring that shop equipment, inventory and safety standards are maintained for student success.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct daily shop and compound safety inspections at start and end of each day, complying with WorkSafe BC and WHMIS.
• Perform equipment safety checks, document condition, and ensure tools are ready for use.
• Manage inventory: receive, inspect, sort, stock, retire, and update the college inventory system for consumables, tools, and safety products.
• Maintain a library of maintenance manuals in paper or digital form for easy access.
• Support practical shop sessions by stocking consumables, preparing training aids, moving equipment, and coordinating specialized tool availability.
• Handle procurement tasks: request quotes, obtain budget approval, place orders, process credit‑card reconciliations, and code invoices.
• Create work‑order requests for building or shop maintenance outside the technician’s scope.
• Provide brief student supervisory support for safety and administer first aid when required.

Required profile

• Familiarity with WorkSafe BC and WHMIS safety regulations.
• Relevant certifications for toolroom and welding operations.
• Ability to perform first‑aid procedures.
• Experience maintaining tools/equipment and coordinating external repairs.
