Tax Specialist – 6-Month Contract

About the role

High Tide Inc. is seeking a proactive Tax Specialist on a 6‑month contract with the possibility of full‑time employment. Reporting to the Tax Manager, you will support tax compliance and strategic initiatives across corporate income tax, indirect tax, international filings, and tax accounting in a fast‑paced environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and file federal, state, and local income tax returns and related compliance documents.
• Prepare legal entity and consolidated income tax provisions.
• Prepare multi‑jurisdiction indirect tax returns (GST/PST/VAT, U.S. sales tax).
• Prepare foreign affiliate information returns (e.g., T106, T1134, T1135).
• Assist with data gathering and response during tax audits and examinations.
• Support tax accounting, including tax GL reconciliation.
• Maintain transfer‑pricing documentation for intercompany transactions.
• Research tax laws and regulations to assess impact on operations.
• Participate in tax due diligence for M&A opportunities.
• Ensure compliance with SOX requirements and promote process improvements.

Required profile

• University degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
• CPA designation (or enrollment in CPA In‑Depth tax course).
• Minimum 3 years of corporate tax compliance experience.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian tax legislation and reporting.
• Exposure to U.S. tax legislation; experience with Avalara is a plus.
• Well‑organized with ability to manage multiple priorities and tight deadlines.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Effective organizational and time‑management abilities.
