Signal Maintainer

About the role

CPKC is seeking a Signal Maintainer to join its Signal and Communications (S&C) team. You will help keep railway operations running safely and reliably 24/7 by installing, repairing, and maintaining signal equipment across our transnational network.

Key responsibilities

• Dig, repair, and install cable and signal equipment, including crossing lights and switch machines.
• Perform pole line work, replace damaged components, and test systems to verify correct operation.
• Conduct preventive maintenance, inspections, and testing on all S&C apparatus.
• Locate cables, paint equipment, maintain housekeeping of signal housings, and climb ladders as needed.
• Report failures or unsafe conditions and ensure sufficient materials are on hand for timely repairs.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; minimum age 18.
• Valid driver’s licence (commercial licence preferred).
• At least 3 years of hands‑on S&C maintenance experience in rail or a similar industry.
• Completion of a certified railroad signal training program before hire.
• Flexibility to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, in all weather conditions.
• Strong safety focus and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
