Senior Financial Specialist

About the role

The Faculty of Applied Science at the University of British Columbia is establishing a Shared Service Centre (SSC) to centralise finance, HR and related services. The Senior Financial Specialist will initially support the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and later transition to the SSC, continuing to provide high‑quality financial support across multiple academic units.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, analyse and report on budgets, forecasts and financial statements for the department and later for the SSC portfolio.
• Ensure compliance with university policies, external regulations and funding agreements.
• Assist with financial planning, cost allocation and resource stewardship.
• Support audit processes and provide documentation for internal and external reviews.
• Collaborate with faculty, staff and external partners to resolve financial issues and improve processes.

Required profile

• Relevant post‑secondary education in finance, accounting or a related field.
• Significant experience in financial analysis, budgeting and reporting within a complex organisation.
• Strong understanding of public‑sector or academic financial environments.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management abilities.
