Senior Accountant – Real Estate

About the role

Leyad, a Montreal‑based real estate investment and management firm, is seeking a Senior Accountant to lead complex accounting activities across its diversified property portfolio. You will ensure compliance with GAAP and tax regulations while supporting month‑end and year‑end close processes.

Key responsibilities

• Manage full‑cycle accounting, including monthly, quarterly and year‑end closings.
• Maintain, reconcile and document general ledger accounts and bank statements.
• Oversee fixed‑asset accounting, depreciation schedules and key expense accounts such as interest, insurance and taxes.
• Prepare accurate financial statements and management reports.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, GST/PST regulations, internal controls and corporate policies.
• Prepare and submit tax filings and support regulatory compliance.
• Reconcile intercompany transactions and assist with financial consolidations.
• Analyze variances, trends and improvement opportunities.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and audit processes.
• Supervise and train junior accounting staff.
• Assist with system implementations (Hopem and/or Yardi) and process improvements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA designation (or in progress).
• Minimum 3 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong analytical, organizational and problem‑solving abilities.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency with accounting systems.
• Excel expertise (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH).
• Experience with Hopem and/or Yardi software.
