Global Trade Director – Defence & Security

About the role

Export Development Canada (EDC) is seeking a Global Trade Director for the Defence & Security sector. The successful candidate will lead the creation of export opportunities for Canadian defence and security firms, working from Ottawa or one of EDC’s regional hubs.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and develop new export business opportunities for Canadian defence and security exporters and investors.
• Leverage an extensive global network to connect Canadian capabilities with international buyers.
• Collaborate closely with the Global Business Development team to align strategies and share market intelligence.
• Provide guidance on Canadian capabilities, supply‑chain dynamics, and regulatory considerations.
• Represent EDC at industry events, trade missions, and stakeholder meetings.

Required profile

• Proven experience in international business development, preferably within defence, security or related high‑technology sectors.
• Deep understanding of Canadian export capabilities and global supply‑chain structures.
• Strong network of contacts in key international defence and security markets.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
