Communications and Engagement Advisor

About the role

The Communications and Engagement Advisor provides strategic communications services, reputation management, and community engagement support for the City’s initiatives. Reporting to the Manager of Communications and Engagement, the role works from Tom Davies Square and contributes to the City’s overall reputation with key stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, implement and evaluate communications programs that align with business goals and enhance the City’s reputation.
• Consult with senior managers, directors, staff and community stakeholders to design appropriate communication strategies.
• Create and manage content for print publications, social media, website, speeches, briefing notes, presentations and advertising.
• Handle sensitive and confidential information related to communications and policy matters.
• Provide public‑relations guidance, training and support to City staff.
• Research, write and edit materials such as flyers, brochures, speeches and briefing notes.
• Develop and monitor program budgets in collaboration with departmental staff.
• Establish media relations, coordinate responses to media inquiries and monitor emerging issues.
• Coordinate communications with community groups, government levels and elected representatives.
• Supervise communications projects from concept to production, overseeing graphics, translation, printing and e‑media components.

Required profile

• Experience in municipal or public‑sector communications, reputation management and community engagement.
• Ability to work with senior leaders and diverse stakeholder groups.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to confidentiality.
